Healing through Crystals

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

I have always been curious about crystals, stones and the energy they absorb and emanate. I discovered Rock Star Crystals (www.rockstarcrystalsmanhattan.com),in New York City about a year and a half ago and wandered around, surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of crystals! I was told to focus on a few areas that I thought needed clearing or amplifying, to pick up a crystal from each bin and see if I had a connection to it. I would "feel" which crystal was meant to be mine. And so, I set forth on this quest and I came away with six crystals.

Amazonite, clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz and carnelian came home with me and sat in a clear jar at my bedside. Amazonite is a soothing stone but I mostly chose it for protection against electromagnetic pollution and microwaves. I know I keep my phone next to my bed most nights and this stone is meant to absorb the general emission of radiation from cell phones.

Clear Quartz, also known as the “master healer", amplifies energy and thought as well as the effects of other crystals and stones in its proximity. This powerful stone draws away negative energy and balances and revitalizes the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes. I also found a pendant of this stone so I could string it on a chain and to this day, I wear it almost daily.

Amethyst is a very protective stone, relieving stress and strain, calming the mind, and strengthening the immune system (specifically the lung space and digestive tract). I was especially drawn to it because of its enhancement of spiritual awareness and intuition.

Rose quartz is the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace. I lingered at this bin for a while to feel the vibrations of several stones before choosing two that when put together formed the shape of an actual heart!

The last stone I found was carnelian. This red stone looks like a rock you might find on Mars. Its stabilizing properties restore vitality, motivation and creativity. Carnelian also ensures good blood circulation and sharpens concentration, which I had never thought about but realized they do go hand in hand.

I could have spent hours in the crystal shop but I decided to head home with these treasures to start my energetic journey!

At home, I read up on and spoke to some healers on how to charge and recharge the crystals to activate them for my environment. I learned that by placing them directly in the sunlight when they first arrive home is the best way to energize them. I keep them by my bedside to fully absorb their benefits and properties while I am sleeping and healing myself. I also learned that about once a season it is important to recharge the crystals. This ritual rids of any unwanted negative energy the crystals may have picked up from their surroundings, which could inhibit them from doing their work.

Recharging involves rice and sunlight! Lay out the crystals in a row, pick up each one and then submerge them in an opaque, white bowl and allow them to sit in the sunlight or natural light for 24 hours. The rice absorbs the unwanted negative energy and is meant to be thrown away when recharging is complete. I did all of this on a new moon day as I know these days are auspicious for new beginnings.

With freshly recharged crystals in hand, I returned them to my clear, glass jar next to my bedside. I felt lighter and easier already!
